Establishment

Develi Vocational School was established by a unanimous decision of the Erciyes University Senate at its meeting on January 10, 2003.

FOUNDATION

The Erciyes University Senate unanimously decided to establish Develi Vocational School within Erciyes University at its meeting on January 10, 2003. On January 12, 2005, Assistant Professor Dr. Fazıl CANBULUT was appointed as the founding director of the Vocational School.

The Develi Vocational School program plan planned to offer a total of six programs: Technical (3), Economics and Administrative (2), and Health (1). In the 2006-2007 academic year, students were admitted to the Computer Technology and Programming and Logistics Programs, and education began in the Faculty of Engineering building on the Erciyes University main campus. Following the completion of the Vocational School building, whose foundation was laid on the Seyrani Campus on August 7, 2004, the school continued its educational activities at the Develi Seyrani Campus during the 2007-2008 academic year.

However, the school's name was changed to "Develi Hüseyin Şahin Vocational School" in honor of Hüseyin ŞAHİN, the benefactor who commissioned the building, by Senate Decision No. 14 dated October 4, 2007. The Occupational Health and Safety Program and the Child Development Program were established in the 2007-2008 academic year, and education and training continued. At the Higher Education General Assembly meeting held on August 26, 2010, the "Computer Technology Program" was established for the 2010-2011 academic year, allowing for additional student admission. Following a decision taken at the General Assembly of Higher Education on May 5, 2011, the "Computer Programming (Evening Program)" program was opened for the 2011-2012 academic year in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 and 7/h of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, and Article 4 of Law No. 3843. Following a decision taken at the General Assembly of Higher Education on March 28, 2013, the "Child Development Program (Evening Program)" and "Occupational Health and Safety (Evening Program)" programs were opened for the 2013-2014 academic year in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 and 7/h of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, and Article 4 of Law No. 3843. This brings the total number of active programs to eight. Following a decision taken at the General Assembly of Higher Education on April 17, 2014, the Occupational Health and Safety (Daytime and Evening Education) Programs were transferred to Mustafa Çıkrıkçıoğlu Vocational School in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 and 7/h of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880. Following a decision taken at the General Assembly of Higher Education on April 17, 2014, the Office Services and Secretarial Department, Office Management, and Executive Assistant (Daytime and Evening Education) Programs, which were previously part of the İzzet Bayraktar Social Sciences Vocational School, were transferred to our Vocational School in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 and 7/h of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880. The Computer Programming (Daytime and Evening Education) Program was closed as of the 2018-2019 academic year due to low enrollment. Following a decision taken at the Higher Education General Assembly meeting on January 9, 2019, the "Cooking Program" and the "Social Services Program" were opened for the 2019-2020 academic year in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880. The Cooking Program accepted students in the 2020-2021 academic year. However, the Social Services Program has not yet accepted students. Following a decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting on December 16, 2020, the "Horticulture Program" was opened for the 2020-2021 academic year in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880. The Office Management and Executive Assistant (Evening Education) Program was closed starting in the 2021-2022 academic year due to low enrollment. Following a decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting on March 13, 2024, the "Catering Services Program" was opened for the 2023-2024 academic year in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880.

The Council of Higher Education has decided to close evening education programs at state universities, effective from the fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. Consequently, the Child Development Evening Education Program, affiliated with the Child Care and Youth Services Department of our Vocational School, has also been closed. In 2025, the Office Management and Executive Assistant Program, under the OFFICE SERVICES AND SECRETARIAT, of our Vocational School, was renamed Office Technologies and Data Management by the relevant decision of the Higher Education Institution. Pursuant to Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, the "Smart Greenhouse Technologies Program" and the "Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Program" were opened for the 2025-2026 academic year. Still, they did not accept students this year. As of the end of the fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, our Vocational School had a total of 1,264 registered students in its current programs, comprising 729 females and 535 males.

Also, Dr. Built by Sami Tutum in honor of his father, Mehmet Hidayet Tutum, the Mehmet Hidayet Tutum Congress and Culture Center serves students studying at Kayseri University's Develi Seyrani Campus and staff working in our departments on the campus. The Center features four search computers, three system computers, a computer lounge with 20 internet-enabled computers, and a library security automation system. The center also houses a 203-seat conference hall, five guest rooms with two-person capacity, one foyer, one staff cafeteria, and one student cafeteria. Our Vocational School is constantly being upgraded in terms of infrastructure and equipment, and its service quality is being enhanced.

Our Vocational School continues its education at Develi Seyrani Campus, affiliated with Kayseri University Rectorate, which was established with the Law No. 7141 on Amendments to the Higher Education Law and Certain Laws and Decree Laws, published in the Official Gazette No. 30425 dated May 18, 2018.
