Types of Examinations
ARTICLE 22-(9) A make-up exam is an examination held for students who are unable to take the midterm exam due to valid and justified reasons accepted by the administrative board of the relevant unit. Students in this situation may exercise their midterm exam rights within the semester, provided that they apply within five academic days following the end of their excuse. The make-up exam will be conducted on the date, place, and time determined by the relevant unit. No second make-up exam will be administered.

Cases Granting the Right to Take Make-up Exam(s)
ARTICLE 7- (1) In order for a student who is unable to attend the midterm exam(s) at the date and time determined by the administrative boards of the units to be considered excused, it is mandatory to document and submit at least one of the reasons listed below:
a) Hospitalization due to surgery or any health problem (medical report obtained from public or private healthcare institutions),
b) The student being involved in a traffic accident (traffic accident report and its attachments),
c) The student or their spouse giving birth or staying in the hospital due to a risk of childbirth (medical report obtained from public or private healthcare institutions),
ç) Obtaining a medical rest report due to any health problem (medical report obtained from public or private healthcare institutions),
d) Having a health condition requiring intervention in the emergency department of hospitals (medical report obtained from public or private healthcare institutions),
e) The death of a first- or second-degree relative (death certificate),
f) Immediate hospitalization of a first-degree relative due to a serious illness or accident (medical report obtained from public or private healthcare institutions for the relative),
g) The student being taken into custody (document obtained from the Public Prosecutor’s Office or law enforcement authorities),
ğ) The student being taken to a police station for any reason (document obtained from the relevant police authority),
h) The student being detained, except for offenses that result in the termination of student status or require dismissal under Article 54 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 (a copy of the detention order),
ı) The student being officially assigned by the university or other official institutions due to national or international competitions, sports activities, etc. (assignment document),
i) The student being unable to complete the exam due to health problems requiring urgent intervention (official report prepared by exam invigilators),
j) Overlapping exams or the impossibility of reaching the next exam due to time and location constraints (official exam schedule document obtained from the unit),
k) The student or a first-degree relative being directly affected by natural disasters or epidemics (document issued by official authorities),
(2) If it is determined that students who are granted the right to take a make-up exam due to illness and who have submitted a medical report have continued their duties in public or private institutions during the period covered by the report, their right to take the make-up exam shall be revoked by a decision of the administrative board of the relevant unit. Students cannot take exams during the valid report period, and any exams taken during this period shall be deemed invalid.
Evaluation of Valid and Justified Reasons
ARTICLE 9- (1) Excuse petitions and their attachments are evaluated and decided upon by the administrative board of the relevant unit.
(2) If the time is not specified in the medical report, the excuse is considered valid for the entire day; if a time is specified, it is considered valid starting from the time indicated in the report.
Application Procedure
ARTICLE 5-
(2) Students who wish to apply for a make-up exam are required to submit their petitions, along with supporting documents, to the relevant academic units within five (5) academic (working) days following the occurrence of the excuse. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
(4) Applications of students requesting excuses due to valid and justified reasons are evaluated by the administrative boards of the relevant units and the Senate within the framework of these procedures and principles. Requests related to course registration are subject to the approval of the Senate, while applications for leave of absence and make-up exams are subject to the approval of the administrative boards of the relevant units.
